Called to be Friends Volunteer Program
Would you like to change someone's life with the gift of friendship? If so, the Called to be Friends Volunteer Program is a way to make a difference and have some fun. Called to be Friends is a visiting program that allows volunteers (over the age of 18) to help people with needs that are beyond their capabilities because of illness, age, disability or life circumstance. Opportunities to volunteer include:
“Ms. A. recently came home from a trip to the Mayo hospital. Her closest relatives live in North Dakota. She would like a friend who can check in with her each week and make sure she has what she needs. She lives in the St. Charles area. “
“A 97 year old male who is used to being very independent is seeking another elderly but healthy male to take him grocery shopping and do a few errands with him once in awhile. He lives in the city of Winona.”
For more information about Called to be Friends in the Greater Winona area, please call Angelique Flack with Catholic Charities at 507-454-2270 or email her at aflack@ccwinona.org.
Common Good Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Winona is sponsor of a national program called Common Good Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Common Good RSVP is a great way to volunteer and network with others. RSVP invites adults age 55 and better to use their life experience to answer the call of their neighbors in need. Volunteering through RSVP has several benefits, including mileage reimbursement and supplemental insurance coverage at no cost to volunteers.
Many on-going volunteer opportunities exist within the eleven county service area of Common Good RSVP. A partial list includes; mentor children, tutor adults in ESL, become a Senior Court Watch volunteer & monitor courtroom activities, provide transportation for people to get to medical appointments, become a disaster relief team member, nursing home and hospital volunteers.
For a complete list of volunteer needs, please call Jennifer Halberg, RSVP Supervisor toll free at 1-888-937-7787 or email jhalberg@ccwinona.org.
