Predicated on and guided by our Mission Statement, the staff,
Board, and volunteers of Catholic Charities aspire to express,
through our actions and attitudes, the following core values:
Respect Believing that
everyone we encounter is a child of God, we will interact
with our clients and with each other in a manner that affirms
the human dignity of the person.
Evidenced, in part, by:
- Listening actively
- Responding with honesty and with sensitivity to the thoughts,
feelings, beliefs, and perceptions of the person
- Resolving our conflicts with an attitude of good faith
and understanding
- Keeping our commitments to one another
Competence Believing
that each activity we undertake is a necessary and good thing
in order to, either directly or indirectly, carry out our
mission, we will equip ourselves with the knowledge, skills,
interest, and enthusiasm to produce quality results to the
best of our ability.
Evidenced, in part, by:
- Establishing and adhering to qualification standards
regarding education, experience, licensing, etc. in hiring
and promotion decisions
- Supporting continuing education and professional development
efforts of our staff
- Providing adequate supervision and on the job training
to our staff
- Incorporating into our policies and procedures the best
practice standards established by authoritative bodies that
guide the program or activity in which we are engaged.
Empowerment Believing
that each of us, as children of God, are most fully human
and fully alive when we responsibly activate our human potential,
we will encourage decision-making, self-determination, creativity,
and accountability for our clients and for ourselves.
Evidenced, in part, by:
- Establishing clear lines of authority and responsibility
- Putting into practice the principle of subsidiarity i.e.,
decision making at the lowest level
- Providing clients and staff members with honest and timely
feedback and assessment so that achievement above, below,
or at expectations is recognized
- Working to promote just social policies in our institutions,
public and private, so that human dignity and responsibility
is affirmed for all members of society, but especially the
poor and powerless
Stewardship Believing
that our mission resonates with all people of goodwill, regardless
of faith tradition, and believing that our public support,
so necessary to carrying out that mission, creates a public
trust, we will manage our resources so that they produce the
greatest good for the greatest number consistent with our
social justice obligations to those who serve.
Evidenced, in part, by:
- Deploying our resources to provide services that meet
real and significant needs of the people in our communities,
but especially the poor, the marginalized, and the alienated
- Working collaboratively with existing service providers
so that human services are provided in the most cost-effective
and efficient manner possible
- Managing our finances so that the long-term health and
viability of our programs and services is maintained
- Inviting all people of goodwill to invest their time,
talent, and treasure in our mission
- Establishing and implementing a system of compensation
and benefits for our staff members that is just and competitive
Joy Believing that our
mission, like our God, affirms life and the human condition
and trusting in Gods will, we will be passionate about
what we do, we will, with humility, examine both our successes
and our failures, and we will celebrate and affirm the gifts
that each of us, volunteers, staff members, and Board members,
bring to Catholic Charities.
Evidenced, in part, by:
- Doing what we do with enthusiasm and energy
- Addressing issues and concerns with honesty and realism
founded in faith and hope
